Alford Department of Otolaryngology \u2013 Head and Neck Surgery. He\u00a0is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.\u00a0Dr. Alford\u00a0has received NASA&#8217;s Distinguished Public Service Medal, the AIAA Jeffries Aerospace Medicine and Life Sciences Research Award, and the NSBRI Pioneer Award for his dedicated service and leadership to the NSBRI and its partnership with NASA. He has served on many space-related councils, including NASA&#8217;s National Advisory Council, the select White House &#8220;Blue Ribbon&#8221; Advisory Committee for the Redesign of the Space Station, and the Task Force on the Scientific Uses of the Space Station.
