The National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) is soliciting applications for its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The two-year fellowships are available in any U.S. laboratory carrying out space-related biomedical or biotechnological research.

"Through this program, recent doctoral graduates are able to conduct independent research projects while continuing to learn from experienced scientists serving as mentors," said Dr. David A. Watson, NSBRI interim associate director. "Our goal is to inspire outstanding young scientists to pursue careers in space life sciences research to help enable long-duration human exploration of space."

Applicants are required to submit proposals with the support of a mentor and institution, and all proposals will be evaluated by a peer review panel. The program is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or persons with pre-existing visas obtained through their sponsoring institutions that permit postdoctoral training for the project’s duration. Selected applicants receive a stipend, allowance for health insurance, and travel funds for related scientific meetings.

Detailed program and application submission information is available at NSBRI_RFA-10-01. Notices of intent are due July 23, 2010, and the application deadline is August 18. Questions may be directed to David A.
