NSBRI’s Summer Apprenticeship Program provides the opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, veterinary or medical students from across the country to join ongoing project activities and gain hands-on experience in space biomedical research at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, or Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California. The 2016 Summer Apprenticeship Program begins on May 31 and ends on August 12. Applicants must be available to perform scientific research and attend seminars during these dates.
Since 1998, 234 students representing more than 107 colleges and universities across 38 states have participated in this 11-week program. The program pays apprentices a stipend of $6,600. Housing and travel, including local travel, are the responsibility of the apprentices.
Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of college by the start of the Summer Apprenticeship Program. The program is only open to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be available to work full time during the program dates.
To be considered for this program, applicants must complete the online application which is accessible each year beginning on October 1. As part of the online process, applicants must upload a CV or resume and a letter of interest. Contact information for one recommender, with whom the applicant has interacted, to submit a letter of recommendation. Please have all needed information ready to upload at the time of application. All documents must be submitted in PDF format.
The letter of recommendation must be submitted by the recommender (i.e.., a mentor that the applicant has worked with) through NSBRI’s online system.
Note: Once an online application is uploaded (including uploading the resume or CV and letter of interest), the applicant will receive a URL to the online recommendation system. This URL should be provided to the person who is providing the letter of recommendation. The person writing the letter of recommendation will be able to upload his/her letter here. The URL will only become available once an applicant fully submits an online application.
